Why Sports Photography Matters
I’m often asked why I have such a strong passion for sports photography.
For me, the value is inherent in what a sports photograph represents. It can capture a defining moment in history, evoke emotion in those who understand the context, and freeze a moment in time that can never be repeated.
How is this applicable to me?
I’ve broken down how sports photography can be applicable to a variety of businesses and organizations that I serve:
Can you provide an example?
Below, I have contrasted famous words from Nelson Mandela with an iconic image for Toronto baseball fans:
Taken by Tom Szczerbowski, this photograph is of Jose Bautista flipping his bat in a 2015 playoff series against Texas.
Consider the significance of Mandela’s quote in relation to this image.
Instantly recognizable, this will eventually become representative of a bygone era in Toronto baseball history. It will always stand for a moment in time that can never be replicated. Above all else, it subverts societal divisions by sharing a story with anyone who understands what it represents.
I realize not every image can be as iconic as this one. Nonetheless, I chose it to demonstrate how impactful a great photograph can be. Apply this to your own unique circumstances – whether you’re a league, team, athlete, or a stadium. Wouldn’t you rather depict what you do with the same level of quality?
